The BDD/CDRD Group emerged from Cooperative Clinical Drug Research and Development GmbH (CCDRD GmbH) founded in 1990. Since then, the Group has successfully established its core business of clinical contract research for the pharmaceutical industry, and additionally extended its business activities to cover chemical, pharmaceutical, pre-clinical, regulatory, and IT aspects of drug development as well.

Today, the affiliates of the BDD/CDRD Group together form a complementary integrated structure that allows the Group to position itself as an expert provider of drug development services from concept to market authorization. BDD/CDRD Group is proud to refer to many middle-sized pharmaceutical companies throughout Europe, North America, Middle East, and Asia as its clients. Besides offering services, the Group also pursues own drug development projects based on intellectual property generated within the Group or in-licensed from partners.

The group's two major operating affiliates are CDRD Berolina AB (contract research), BDD GmbH (financial management and administration) and BiRDS Pharma GmbH (proprietary projects).
